Motorcycle Gallery, Coventry Transport Museum I Open April 2006
RFA has completed two recent design-and-build projects for the Museum including a new Motorcycle Gallery with exhibits selected from a collection of over 100 British machines, many of which were made locally by manufacturers such as Triumph, Rudge and Francis Barnett.
The brief stated that the new gallery must be object led with as many motorcycles on display as possible, with some presented as ‘centre pieces’ and others displayed in ‘open storage’ with limited interpretation.
Our solution was to utilise light and movement from a central source onto and above displays that radiate out to a ‘wall of death’. Projected pictorial, written and filmic material results in an exhibition that breathes life into what could otherwise be a fairly dull experience. The densely displayed open storage area features a specially designed, modular, racking system, allowing machines to be displayed double-height.
